In this article we don’t want to talk about the basic points of content creation. The goal is to increase the ability to write effectively. It is assumed that the reader knows the basic points of correct writing. So, we want to explain some points to use NLP techniques (Neuro-linguistic programming) to write effectively. Before getting into the core of the subject, we explain about the correct and well writing to reach a common viewpoint with the audience. If you think you don’t need to read about this, you can start from the second title.
Correct writing, well writing and effective writing
Correct writing means to shape the content structure (content form) correctly. I mean making the correct statements, the appropriate length for the paragraphs, and the text should be appropriate to the publisher of the article, and so on. When we write correct, the structure of the writing doesn’t have a problem, but we may have no interesting content. That is, our content container is good, but we may have no proper content.
To write well, we must go beyond the form and pay attention to the content. It means that we should know the audiences and understand the needs of them. We must discover the audience’s personality to produce suitable content for him. With well writing, many goals that we have from content creation will be met. In fact, most of the useful contents are well contents. But our goal is effective writing.
How to write effectively?
The purpose of effective writing is to penetrate the audience’s emotions. It means that we have the ability to create the emotion we want within the audience with our writing. If we can do this, we will reach our goal much faster. This goal can be increasing the sales, getting the user’s information, or being liked or followed or anything else.
So, for effective writing, we need to be able to influence the audience’s emotions. But how can we do this? Some believe that this is the art of content creator or writer. Some also believe that this will happen with experience and, of course, getting feedback from the content creation.
Yes, the writer’s art, both the experience and getting feedback can help to write effectively. But if we can find principles and rules for effective writing, we can quickly and effectively conquer effective writing boundaries. The principles and rules that help us to write effectively are NLP techniques and concepts (Neuro-linguistic programming).
How to penetrate the audience’s emotions?
Which part of the audience’s attention get involved by reading your written text? Perhaps most people say visual. Of course, this answer is due to the most people’s understanding about five senses. If you only make the audience’s vision involved, you cannot get close to the effective writing boundaries. NLP teaches us how to involve all the senses of the audience in a written text.
NLP believes that every human being communicates with the world through 3 channels of visual, auditory, kinesthetic (sensory) that is the combination of tactile, olfactory, and taste. You can find out more information about the preferred channels in this article.
For effective writing, we need to make these three favorite channels involved with the help of the written text. But how? To answer this question, I ask again the above question and explain the correct answer. Which part of the audience’s attention get involved by reading your written text? The correct answer is: all the senses.
2 techniques for making the audience involved
When a person is reading a text, he hears his own voice simultaneously in his head. You make a picture for him with your written text and he sees that picture. This is not the end. The person even realize the space you make for him. In fact all our senses are ready to get involved while reading. Your written text must have the potential to make all the senses involved.
First technique: transferring sensational experiences
For effective writing, we have to transfer our sensational experiences as well. We can do this through 3 levels.
First level: pictures
Imagine the pictures related to your written text in your mind. For example, if you are writing about protecting the environment, imagine an environment that has found an ugly face with garbage. Try to imagine by details. Details like color and light and so on. Try to see the image closely in your mind.
Second level: sounds
Think about the sounds related to the subject you hear. Again, just like imagining the picture, try to think about the sounds with details. The sounds should be close and clear.
Third level: sense
Try to imagine the feeling that the subject gives to you. You may have heard that some writers tear when they write the death of the hero of the story. This is exactly because of the association of the sense of the subject. If we want to write effectively, then we should do that.
For example, if you are writing about astronomy and observation of the stars, associate the sense you have in the night while observing the stars. Imagine the cold weather, the cool wind, the excitement and the pleasure you have while observing the stars. Of course, you should not write about all the things you associate inside the text. But, thinking about them will affect your writing. The same effect is transmitted to the audience and all his senses are involved.
You may have heard that Asghar Farhadi wrote two screenplays for most of his created movies. One of the screenplays is not made. Because it is only about the character’s background of the movie. Actors must play the second screenplay. By doing so, they achieve a realistic image and feeling about the roles they play and also the opposite roles. Playing the second screenplay before starting to play the first screenplay will make all the actors’ preferred channels get involved with their role and their opposite role.
The second technique: using some examples
When we use the proverb, we quickly make the audience’s preferred channels involved. Because proverbs are phrases that transfer the same concept in a society. Most people in a society agree on the concept of a proverb. Therefore, they have the same image and feeling about a proverb. So, if we use a proverb when we want to explain something, we will reach our goal quickly.
These are some points about NLP that are used to write effectively. Of course, achieving the skill in using these tips requires training. But as I said, it is easier to reach the goal by understanding the rules and principles. I hope we write effectively by using these principles.
