According To The NLP, What Is The Role Of Language In Our Thinking?

Our lives are influenced by our thoughts. Because our thoughts are related to our emotions. Our thoughts make our decisions. Our thoughts build our relationship with others. language is one of the key roles in shaping our thoughts. Therefore, understanding the role of language in thinking is very important. Because it can influence our thoughts and then our whole lives.

In this article, we will first explain what thinking and thoughts are.  What is the meaning of language?  And what role does language play in thinking?

What Is Thought And How Does It Happen?

To understand what thinking is, let’s think for a moment and see what happens to us when we think? Let’s think of a pine tree, for example.  If you think about the pine tree for a moment, you will definitely confirm that different words and sentences went through your mind.

That is exactly what thought is. Thought actually is a circuit of words stored in the mind. That is, whenever We are thinking of something, we are searching among the words stored in our minds. At first we might get to a few words and from those words to other words and this path continues like this. We constantly remember new things until we get another input from the environment. Like a sound, an image or a feeling.

What Is Thought

So far we have become acquainted with thinking and the structure of thinking, and we have realized that when we think, We search between the words stored in our minds. To be able to explain the role of language in thinking, we must know what language is and what concepts are called language?

What Is Language And What Are The Concepts Of Language?

Many people only know the language as a part of the body. Some even equate language with words and sentences. But language goes beyond that. In fact, language is a mental process. Language as a mental process plays an important role in shaping our thinking. Thus the role of language in thinking has significant effects on our lives.

As we have said, our thinking is made up of different words and sentences. These words and sentences are related to language. It is our language that puts these words and sentences together and creates different meanings in our minds. In fact, the sentences and words we utter and the thoughts that make up those sentences and words are the output of the mental process called language.

So it can be said that language, in addition to being one of the parts of the body, is how sentences are formed and words are composed. In other words, it is the grammar and rules of a system and also a mental process that shapes our thinking. Now, given the explanations we have given about the nature of thought and concepts related to language, we can understand the role of language in thinking.

What Is The Role Of Language In Thinking?

As we said, thinking is a circuit of words stored in the mind. So what words and sentences are stored in our minds, play a role in determining our thinking.  Where do the words stored in our minds come from? Some of these words are words and sentences that we hear or read during the day.

Concepts Of Language

So the treasure of words we have stored in our minds since childhood builds the way we think. Our way of thinking shape our decisions and feelings; decisions and feelings shape our lives and our future. So we can choose the treasure of words we have from positive words, or by using negative words and associating with people who have negative thoughts, fill our minds with negative words.

It may have occurred to you and someone else that witnessed an event or heard something at the same time, but you had different perceptions of it. One of the reasons is the role of language in thinking or the differences in concepts and meanings related to different words in the minds of different people.

Paying attention to this issue is especially important in communicating with others and understanding what they mean. When we say something to someone, it enters the mind of the person. What happens is that the person’s mind searches for the meanings that are related to our words.  So their perceptions of our words is the result of concepts recorded in their minds.

So from now on, if anyone misunderstands us or vice versa, We know that this misunderstanding may be due to the role of language in our thinking or the other person’s . So we can change the words and be more careful in choosing words and pay attention to the fact that Our message is received based on the meaning of the words recorded in their minds, not the meaning in our minds.
